Can we make small the new big?
Encanto may be the beginning of a trend. The builder,
Robson Homes, envisioned a new kind of urban infill development—a
neighborhood of small detached homes that focused on architecture, smart
design and premium features rather than on maximizing the square foot-to-price
ratio. The idea called for careful positioning. Robson targeted a narrow
audience of upscale, professional singles and couples who would appreciate
the proximity to the city center and the unique aesthetics of the homes.
We found inspiration in the California bungalow
communities of the '20s
and '30s and the history of the area as a former fruit packing
district. The product identity, marketing materials and site signage
were designed to capitalize on a feeling of nostalgia and the coziness
of an old-fashioned neighborhood.
